<h4>The Role</h4>
The Data Scientist, Compliance will join the Compliance Data Science & Analytics team - chartered to put data at the center of the organization’s decisions. As we build out a bad activity prevalence sampling function, we need a data scientist with a strong academic background in statistics, fluency in the practical application of sampling methodologies, and the ability to enact organizational change through their findings. They will partner with compliance, risk, and product teams to identify and measure new and existing areas of unwanted behavior in order to inform controls and compliance monitoring.
<h4>You Will</h4>
<ul>
<li>Spearhead the design, implementation, and analysis of bad activity prevalence sampling studies. Leverage appropriate sampling methodologies tailored to measuring risk of money laundering and terms of service violations, ensuring studies provide an accurate picture of platform health</li>
<li>Identify and mitigate potential biases and sampling errors to enhance the accuracy and reliability of findings.</li>
<li>Perform deep dive analysis into different customer segments and/or products to identify pockets of compliance risk and measure the effectiveness & impact of product controls.</li>
<li>Design and analyze experiments to assess the impact of compliance programs, leveraging A/B testing and causal inference methods to drive actionable insights</li>
<li>Own executive-level reporting and metrics to measure risk and bad activity on the platform over time.</li>
<li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate insights into strategic actions and program recommendations.</li>
<li>Communicate complex statistical concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences and influence teams to take action based on your recommendations.</li>
</ul>
<h4>You Have</h4>
<ul>
<li>7+ years experience; 3+ years of experience and a PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Biostatistics, Economics or related quantitative field</li>
<li>Expert-level knowledge of sampling methodologies, with a proven ability to apply them in real-world scenarios and to identify and quantify sources of bias</li>
<li>Expert-level abilities in SQL and data analysis/visualization tools (i.e. Tableau, Looker, Mode, Python libraries)</li>
<li>Proficiency in scripting and data analysis programming languages, such as Python or R</li>
<li>Deep experience using data to solve complex, ambiguous problems</li>
<li>Vision to define problems and manage projects in a fast-­paced, evolving organization</li>
<li>Track record of bringing data to life for any audience through written and verbal communication and data visualization</li>
<li>Excellent communication and leadership abilities</li>

<h4>The Role</h4>
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate should have working experience of tax business processes and boundary ERP applications for supporting Tax reporting. They will work closely with the indirect/Direct tax team to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Additionally, the candidate should possess knowledge of data analysis and reporting, with the ability to understand billing processes and accounting principles. They should have familiarity working with Tax Engines (Vertex, Avalara, OneSource etc) and knowledge of Oracle financial and supply chain systems. Technical proficiency in utilizing various reporting tools and API's is essential, along with the strong ability to reconcile different datasets and identify discrepancies.
<h4>You Will</h4>
<ul>
<li>Contribute to the design, development and implementation of Tax technology projects, in the support of our business and/or product priorities. </li>
<li>Develop automations and/or BI reports to enhance the day-to-day operations of the tax organization.</li>
<li>Document as-is processes, including data flows, dependencies, and pain points and Identify opportunities for improvement in systems and processes</li>
<li>Manage support queue and prioritize tasks to keep-the-lights-on for the business.</li>
<li>Lead sprints to execute on priorities and deliver value iteratively.</li>
<li>Work with cross functional technical teams to deliver integrated solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and standards.</li>
<li>Collaborate with Oracle Financial and Supply Chain teams to develop tax data flow and reporting.</li>
<li>Utilize reporting tools(Looker, Snowflake) to generate reports and insights for the business.</li>
<li>Conduct data analysis and reporting to support tax compliance and decision-making.</li>
<li>Collaborate with the tax team to gather and understand business requirements.</li>
<li>Work on the design and implementation of ongoing systems improvements and automated tools to support the growth of the tax and Treasury departments.</li>
<li>Hands-on experience with API technologies and systems.</li>
</ul>
<h4>You Have</h4>
<ul>
<li>BS in Information Systems, Technology, or equivalent</li>
<li>Experience with tax systems (Vertex, Avalara, OneSource) and ERP systems (Oracle).</li>
<li>7 years of experience in Sales/use tax, tax compliance and audit.</li>
<li>Strong understanding of Tax and Accounting processes and procedures.</li>
<li>Experience managing large, multidisciplinary projects that impact tax (e.g., ERP implementations, M&A, finance transformations)</li>
<li>Proficiency in complex SQL queries</li>
<li>Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.</li>
<li>Strong analytical and problem solving skills.</li>
<li>Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.</li>

The Role
As part of a newly formed Block central design team, our mission is to reinvent the way we design, build, and govern product ecosystems, internally and externally to Block, while showing the world what open source design looks like in the process. Our team built the design systems that powers Cash App, and we are now expanding our efforts into AI-assisted tooling and open-source agent-based automation (check out our recently launched agent codename goose!).
Work from anywhere: This role can be performed remotely from any location in the US.
You Will
<ul>
<li>Design AI-powered tools that enhance creativity and efficiency, including open-source AI agents that automate and augment workflows.</li>
<li>Design plugins, linters, and automation tools (Figma, native apps, internal tools) that improve the design and development process.</li>
<li>Consult with business unit teams on how they can apply AI solutions to their workflows, and guide teams towards a technology first approach to crafting the customer experience.</li>
<li>Explore novel applications of AI in design workflows, from generative UI solutions to intelligent layout suggestions and predictive design patterns.</li>
<li>Design and maintain design systems that power our open source tools, supporting documentation, and all extensions of our work that can be leveraged across Block.</li>
</ul>
You Have
<ul>
<li>8+ years of experience working in user experience, product, or relevant design field</li>
<li>A deep interest in the design and development process itself, always thinking about better ways to deliver craft at scale </li>
<li>Experience designing full product solutions end-to-end autonomously while guiding cross functional partners through the process </li>
<li>Experience designing with, and contributing to, design systems within a large product organization</li>
<li>Strong user interface and design fitness</li>
<li>Proficiency with current UI and product workflow tools (figma, airtable, notion, etc.) and comfortable speaking to modern display layer technologies (Token Schemas, APIs, Swift, Kottlin, etc)</li>
<li>Been mistaken for an ops person or product manager before</li>
<li>Experience working with distributed teams in multiple time zones and an affinity for designing and facilitating asynchronous collaborative work</li>
<li>Past work experience showcasing the ability to define major workstreams, communicate a plan and success measurement framework, and then execute </li>
<li>The spidey sense to recognize patterns most people don’t see in the organization, and the ability to facilitate collaborative efforts to connect the dots</li>
